The Hobby

As a reptile enthusiast, I have always been drawn to the unique and fascinating world of crested geckos. These lizards, native to the southern islands of New Caledonia, are known for their distinctive crests of skin that run along their head and back, as well as their large, expressive eyes.

The hobby of keeping and breeding crested geckos is one that I hold dear to my heart. Not only are these animals beautiful and intriguing to look at, but they are also relatively easy to care for, making them the perfect pet for reptile enthusiasts of all experience levels.

One of the things that I love most about crested geckos is their docile nature. These lizards are not known to be aggressive and are generally easy to handle, making them a great choice for those who are new to keeping reptiles. Additionally, crested geckos are relatively small, reaching an adult length of about 8-10 inches, which means that they do not require a lot of space to thrive.

Another aspect of crested geckos that I find particularly interesting is their diet. As opportunistic feeders, crested geckos consume a wide variety of insects and fruits in the wild. In captivity, they can be fed a commercial diet specifically formulated for them, as well as a variety of fruits and insects. I find the variety of options and the fact that they are obligate fruit eaters very fascinating.

But, what I love the most about the hobby of keeping and breeding crested geckos is the breeding aspect. Seeing the geckos grow, develop and eventually produce babies is a very satisfying experience. It's a hobby that requires patience and dedication, but the rewards are well worth it. The process of breeding crested geckos can be a bit complex, but it's definitely something that I enjoy.

In conclusion, the hobby of keeping and breeding crested geckos is a passion of mine that I find immensely rewarding. These lizards are not only beautiful and intriguing to look at, but they are also relatively easy to care for, making them the perfect pet for reptile enthusiasts of all experience levels. From their docile nature, unique diet, and the breeding aspect, there's so much to love about the crested geckos. If you're considering getting into the hobby, I highly recommend giving it a try.
